Main duties of the job

As a Theatres Stock Management Officer, you will work as part of a team to provide an efficient and reliable Materials Management Service throughout the Trust by setting up and maintaining ward/department stock profiles, (including high value 'non-stock' items procured directly from Suppliers) to meet clinical requirements.

You will produce and analyse reports in order to recommend and persuade user departments to follow Trust initiatives such as Standardisation and Rationalisation programs. Working under own initiative, responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day Materials Management operation for specifically allocated wards/departments.

To coordinate own workload to undertake counts to replenish stock to previously agreed levels using bar code data capture technology. Meeting ordering and delivery deadlines for consumables for patient care to be maintained by medical staff, assessing clinical requirements for urgent requests (i.e., procedural urgency/quality/price/supply route etc.) and implement effective ordering and distribution mechanisms. Person Specification


Qualifications / training required

* Understanding Materials Management principles and process including stock control, ordering, invoicing and customer care skills, acquired through NVQ level 3 or foundation stage of CIPS or equivalent experience in a Materials Management role.
* Basic level experience of Windows applications Word and Excel.
* Good Standard of Education including Mathematics and English


Previous or relevant experience necessary

* Experience of being able to work under own initiative without direct supervision to achieve completion of tasks relating to own areas of responsibility.
* Demonstrable customer care skills with examples both on the telephone and in person.
* Have experience in previous job roles which required good organisational skills and prioritisation of workload.
* Medical consumables product knowledge.
* Knowledge of NHS Purchase Order and Materials Management systems.
* Experience in working with NHS Procurement / Materials Management / Distribution.
* Supply Chain knowledge
* Knowledge of Health and Safety in the Workplace.
* Previous hospital or health service experience.


Aptitudes and skills required

* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff
* Self-motivation
* Candidate must be numerate, literate and accurate
* Prioritises own workload when required.
* Computer literate with good accurate keyboard skills, Windows based applications, Word, Excel and inventory software systems.
* Have a methodical approach to checking own work.
* A team player whilst also being able to work alone when required
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Strong eye for detail and ability to prioritise
* Right first-time attitude to work
* Logical and consistent working career pattern
