Are you an experienced Highways Development Control professional looking to take the next step in your career? Join our dynamic and growing Highways Development Control Team as a Senior Highways Development Control Engineer and play a leading role in shaping high-quality, sustainable development across the borough.
In this senior role, you will act as a key technical expert and statutory consultee for all planning applications with transport or highways impacts. You will lead on assessing development proposals, providing pre-application advice, reviewing Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and Construction Management Plans, and overseeing Section 38/278 highway works through to adoption.
You’ll support the Highways Development Control Manager in the overall delivery of the service and deputise for them when required. This includes helping to drive forward our integrated “One Stop Shop” approach and supporting the identification and securing of sustainable third-party income opportunities.
We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise, confidence in stakeholder engagement, and the ability to provide excellent customer service. You’ll work collaboratively with Planning Services, developers, consultants, councillors, communities and internal teams to deliver safe, accessible and sustainable highway outcomes.
What You’ll Do
* Act as a statutory consultee for planning applications with highway/transport impacts.
* Provide professional pre-application and technical advice to developers and planning officers.
* Review Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Construction Management Plans and schemes under S38/S278.
* Support and deputise for the Highways Development Control Manager.
* Help drive service growth and contribute to the development of income-generating opportunities.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring excellent customer service.
What Our Client is Looking For
* Significant experience in highway development control, transport planning or highway engineering.
* Strong understanding of planning and highways legislation, standards and best practice.
* Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to manage complex caseloads and work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Degree in a relevant discipline (Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or similar).
* Professional registration (CEng, IEng, TPP or similar) is desirable.
