Summary of the Engineering & Maintenance Manager Role:
Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering & Maintenance Manager to oversee the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of all engineering and maintenance services across their Milton Hill site. You will lead a team of engineers and specialist contractors, ensuring assets are effectively maintained, statutory requirements are met, and the site operates reliably and efficiently, combining strong technical leadership with hands-on team management and day-to-day operational control.
Engineering & Maintenance Manager – Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Engineering Delivery:
- Manage all planned and reactive maintenance (PPM, breakdowns and remedial works)
- Ensure all plant, equipment and systems are safe, compliant and fit for purpose
- Deliver maintenance in line with SFG20 and best practice standards
- Diagnose technical issues and lead effective resolution plans
- Oversee small works and minor projects
Compliance & Health & Safety:
- Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations and site procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records
- Manage permits to work and safe systems of work
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Promote a strong safety culture across the team
Team Leadership:
- Lead, manage and develop a team of 5 engineers and a site supervisor
- Ensure the team is appropriately skilled, trained and resourced
- Set clear expectations and manage performance
- Support training, development and succession planning
Contractor & Supplier Management:
- Manage specialist contractors and service providers
- Monitor performance, quality and safety standards
- Ensure value for money and effective service delivery
Operational Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and cost
- Support asset lifecycle planning and maintenance strategy development
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering operations
Stakeholder Management:
- Build strong working relationships with site stakeholders and clients
- Provide clear updates on maintenance activity, risks and performance
- Respond to requests for additional works and technical support
Financial Control:
- Manage maintenance budgets and control costs
- Review and approve quotes, works and purchase orders
- Support forecasting and cost planning for maintenance activities
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
- Strong technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience managing maintenance operations in a complex environment
- Knowledge of statutory compliance and building services systems
- Experience leading engineering teams
- Familiar with CAFM systems and maintenance planning
- Good problem-solving and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Health & Safety qualification (IOSH / NEBOSH)
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g. pharma, production, labs)
- Experience with reliability or condition-based maintenance
