Thomas Bewick currently have permanent and fixed term maternity opportunities available in Key Stage 1, Key Stage 4 and Post 16. Please ensure that your application outlines your experience and preference regarding age-group/s and SEND.
We are looking to appoint motivated, highly effective and creative teachers with experience and/or interest in teaching pupils with autism and associated difficulties to join our positive, forward-thinking and dedicated team of staff.
We are looking for candidates who will:
* Be forward-thinking, positive and ambitious
* Use their skills, knowledge and experience to deliver an appropriate and engaging curriculum
* Personalise planning and teach across a diverse range of needs and adapt teaching to support pupils’ education at different stages of development
* Have a passion for teaching and learning, and improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs and autism
* Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within and beyond the classroom with support staff, teachers, other professionals, parents, carers, agencies and communities
Main duties
* To plan on a daily basis for all pupils in the required subjects
* To monitor the delivery of set/planned objectives to pupils within the required subject areas
* To take responsibility for leading and directing support staff
* Ensure accurate and timely assessment, recording and reporting of pupil progress; including accurate and appropriate data collection
* Be aware of, and adapt your approach to meet, the individual pastoral needs of each child
Thomas Bewick School is a large, successful specialist school in Newcastle upon Tyne for autistic learners aged between 4 and 19 years. The school was graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in September 2023. We are proud of our reputation as a centre of excellence in autism provision.

* Gilbert Ward Academy – Special School academy for pupils with SEMH or a diagnosis of autism (11-16 years)
Prosper Learning Trust was also recently named as the lead partner in the opening of a new Free School in Jarrow, South Tyneside. This school will be a Special School academy for pupils with SEMH (4-11 years). The successful candidate will be deployed initially at Thomas Bewick School but will be expected to work at any Prosper Learning Trust site should the need arise.
