About the Programme

Our client’s Graduate Engineering Engagement Initiative is a national development scheme created to help engineering students and recent graduates from backgrounds that are often underrepresented in the industry. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between university education and the realities of professional engineering, giving participants the insight, confidence and industry exposure needed to thrive in their future careers.

What the Programme Offers

Participants take part in an engaging blend of virtual and in-person sessions that focus on technical, professional and personal development. Over the course of the programme (around two hours per week), you’ll have access to:

* Career Development Support – Practical workshops covering presentation skills, networking, CV writing, interview techniques and workplace awareness. You’ll also receive tailored advice to help shape your long-term career strategy.
* On-Demand Learning – Access to a library of online resources and sessions offering specialist industry knowledge and insights from leading professionals.
* Mentoring – The chance to be paired with a practicing engineer who will provide one-to-one mentoring, career guidance and advice on achieving your professional goals.
* Networking Opportunities – Direct interaction with a broad range of major engineering employers, offering visibility to potential internships, placements, and employment opportunities.

Participant Commitments

To make the most of the experience, participants are expected to:

* Attend at least four programme events, including at least one held in person.
* Take part in a virtual one-to-one career discussion with a member of the programme team.
* Complete any assigned development materials.
* Provide feedback and complete brief progress surveys during the programme.

Why Join

This initiative provides a platform for aspiring engineers to strengthen their employability and confidence through practical experience and industry engagement. Benefits include:

* Professional Growth – Develop core employability skills and gain exposure to the realities of engineering careers.
* Confidence Building – Enhance your ability to present yourself, network effectively and navigate professional environments.
* Career Progression – Access guidance and mentorship that will help you plan and pursue your next steps in engineering.
* Industry Insights – Gain behind-the-scenes knowledge of how engineering organisations operate and discover emerging career opportunities.

Who Can Apply

To be considered for this programme, applicants should:

* Be based in the UK and have the right to live and work in the country for at least one year following application. (Those with pre-settled or refugee status may be eligible; however, student or graduate visa holders are not.)
* Be currently studying engineering (second year or above) or have recently graduated from a UK university with an engineering degree.
* Identify with one or more of the following:
* A woman in engineering;
* From a Black, Asian or other ethnic minority background;
* A student from a non-Russell Group university;
* From a lower socio-economic background.

Accessibility and Flexibility

The programme is offered in hybrid, virtual and in-person formats, making it accessible to students and graduates across the UK. It is particularly focused on ensuring fair access for those traditionally underrepresented in the engineering profession.

How to Apply

Spaces are limited and allocated on a rolling basis, so early application is advised. The programme particularly encourages applicants from regions that have historically had lower participation, and as such, certain locations may close early once places are filled.
