Offer description

Liverpool Clinical Laboratories is the largest provider of pathology services in the Northwest. The work we do is clinically led and cutting edge, making us a regional reference centre for many specialist investigations. As part of LCL you will be encouraged to share your skills to help drive the organisation to success.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic workforce within the Department of Haematology and Transfusion based at the Royal site of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. This busy department operates 24 hours, is well equipped with modern automation and processes more than samples per annum.

The post holder will be working under Agenda for Change terms and conditions, on a shift pattern covering Monday – Friday and some weekend hours.

In this role you will support the day-to-day activities of the Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories working under the direction of qualified staff, as part of the pathology team. You will process clinical specimens for biological testing and associated supporting functions. You will also perform maintenance on instruments, running internal QC as per section policy and bring outliers to the attention of Biomedical Scientists. The role also requires the post holder to undertake relevant unsupervised housekeeping laboratory duties in a timely and efficient manner as directed by departmental policy. You should also be able to work using your own initiative, demonstrating good interpersonal and communication skills.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.
