Total Remuneration: £54,145 to £63,750 Pay Supplement: The base salary for this role is £46,677-£54,957. This job qualifies for Digital, Data and Technology Annual Pay supplement 16% which is included in the total remuneration above. Pension: 28.97% of base salary (RoS contribution) Annual leave: 38 days annual holiday, increasing to 42 days with length of service. Duration: Permanent Working Pattern: 35 hours per week. We are a flexible employer and will consider a variety of working patterns on a case-by-case basis. For example, compressed hours, term-time working or part-time working. Location: Hybrid working. Offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh Hybrid working model. Contractual base either at Meadowbank House, Edinburgh (EH8 7AU), or St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow (G2 5LD). We envision that many of the team, community activities and co-design sessions will take place at our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, for at least a part of each week. The Role Content designers make information easier for people to understand and use. As a Senior Content Designer, you’ll be embedded in one of our in-house, full-stack teams. You’ll lead content strategy, design seamless user journeys, and turn complex policy into clear, accessible information across digital and offline channels. You’ll also mentor colleagues, set standards, and contribute to a thriving content design community. A senior content designer is an expert practitioner who develops content strategy and solutions. At this role level, you will: make sure appropriate content is shown to a user in the right place and in the best format start from discovery and work closely with user experience researchers, interaction designers, service designers, subject matter experts and Policy colleagues take responsibility for content quality, manage small teams and mentor content colleagues write and map user stories review the work of others to assure quality lead on content design projects engage with and deliver the RoS content design community of practice If you’re passionate about making information usable and meaningful—and want to help shape services that truly serve Scotland—this is the role for you. On a typical day you will… Be the main point of contact for enquiries and manage the Content Design mailbox. Contribute to and use the style guides and content patterns. Implement and maintain a content governance process for RoS. Deliver the Content Design Community of Practice. Introduce new ideas and processes which can be practically used for the benefits or the organisation. Lead the delivery and continual improvement of content design for ros.gov.uk website, ensuring that it is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the business, our customers and stakeholders. Produce and publish mandatory reports on behalf of RoS. Raise the profile of Content Design within RoS. Respond to changing requirements using an Agile delivery methodology. Support with the creation of a skills model and learning pathway for Content Design roles. Use evidence, data and research to make content decisions and champion user-centred design practices. Work across all RoS departments and projects to identify opportunities or business critical development requirements. Using this insight, implement changes to ros.gov.uk that add value and enhance the customer experience and ensure that it is fit for purpose for our delivery areas. Work with UCD resource to identify and understand user needs. Essential Criteria – Skills and Attributes for Success Experience/Technical: We will assess you against the following technical skills during the application and assessment process: Experience of working with content management systems (CMS). Experience of working in an agile environment. Experience of creating content concepts, prototyping, content patterns or standards. Familiar with Scottish Governments Digital First Service Standard (formerly D1) or Government Digital Services Standards. Competencies At application stage, you will be scored against the bolded Competencies and against all Competencies for the assessment: Delivering a Quality Service Experience of managing and delivering fit for purpose, user focussed content Understand the different types of user research, evidence and data and how they’re used at different stages of product development (alpha, beta, live). Leading and Communicating/Collaborating and Partnering Strong leadership and influencing skills with ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared goals in multi-disciplinary or cross-functional teams, while focusing on user needs. Understand the role of content in multidisciplinary teams and can articulate and advocate it. Work collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines in multidisciplinary teams. Identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, and can measure and evaluate them, helping the team to decide the best approach. Help teams manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work, define scope and agree a minimum viable product (MVP). Changing and Improving Practical experience of introducing new efficient processes or concepts, using own initiative to solve problems, and manage effectively changing priorities and deadlines. Help lead the design and implementation of strategies, evaluating their impact and progress to ensure business objectives and the needs of users are being met. Help lead and implement strategic content improvement projects, focusing effort in the areas of greatest priority and ensuring goals and objectives are met. Show a deep understanding of end-to-end journeys and how content is affected within these journeys. Identify where journey fixes or content improvements need to be made. Ensure that content is regularly reviewed and evaluated, contributing to continuous improvements and iteration. Building Capability for All Demonstratable experience of building accessible online content in line with WCAG standards. Take responsibility for assuring the quality of content from more junior colleagues, and coaching and guiding them to improve.
