Salary and Allowances – AfC Band 3 (pro rata) plus a High Secure Environmental Allowance of £1,750.47 per annum (pro rata) and a High Secure Clinical Responsibility Allowance of £4,201.29 per annum (pro rata)

Hours – Full Time and Part time

Contract Duration – Permanent and Fixed Term Opportunities

Successful candidates must be available to attend a two‑week mandatory induction and training course commencing on 9 March 2026.


Job Details

We are excited to announce a great opportunity to join our nursing team. You will support registered nursing staff to deliver high quality, person‑centred care for patients with mental health illness and learning disability in a forensic environment.

It is advantageous for candidates to possess an SVQ level 2 in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring or mental health or learning disability environment.

You will demonstrate an ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Effective written and verbal communication skills are an essential part of this role as is the ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.

You will have a working knowledge of basic information technology.


Training and Development

* Healthcare Support Worker Mandatory Induction
* SVQ Level 2 health and social care
* New to Forensic Course

Successful applicants commit to completing the above within the first two years of employment.


Shift Pattern

Successful candidates work a 4 days on and 2 days off shift pattern, with shifts generated up to 12 weeks in advance. Applicants may also be rostered to work night duty and work on average a 75‑hour fortnight when on night duty.

Reduced Working Week

From 1 April 2024, the standard full‑time working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland has reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours. Part‑time staff will receive a pro‑rated reduction in hours without any loss of earnings. Where reduced hours cannot be accommodated, staff may continue working 37.5 hours per week.

A further reduction to a 36‑hour working week is planned for 1 April 2026.
