Data Protection Executive | £35,000 | Hybrid (3 Days in office) | Birmingham City Centre
Our client is a Professional Services firm with an outstanding reputation. An opportunity has arisen for Data Protection Executive to join its dedicated Information Governance and Data Protection team in Birmingham city centre.
This is a role for someone looking to build genuine, hands-on expertise in data protection law not a support role, not an administrative position. You will carry substantive work from day one, supported by senior practitioners who are invested in your development. Data protection at law firm level is a different discipline to in-house compliance work. You will be advising clients, not just implementing policy. The work is technical, the client base is diverse, and the team is specialist. If you are serious about building a career in DP and IG, this is the environment that develops it properly.
The Role
You will sit within a busy practice, working directly with the Data Protection Department Leader on a range of client and governance matters. The work is detailed, technical and requires someone who takes accuracy seriously.
Your core responsibilities will include:
* Handling Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) from start to finish, including reviewing large volumes of material and carrying out document redaction to the required standard.
* Reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), providing initial commentary and clearly identifying risks, queries and issues for clients to consider and address.
* Reviewing Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), identifying missing provisions, gaps and areas of concern, and flagging data protection risks to senior colleagues.
* Supporting the team with information governance and compliance tasks, routine advisory work and internal governance activities as required.
What You Will Need
* A working knowledge of GDPR and UK data protection law sufficient to handle the responsibilities outlined above you do not need to be a qualified solicitor, but you do need to know the framework and how it applies in practice.
* An understanding of key data protection risks and compliance concepts, even where experience has been gained under supervision. A baseline awareness of cyber security issues and how they interact with data protection and information governance obligations.
* Experience of handling sensitive and confidential information to a high standard.
* Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when reviewing and redacting documents, this is non-negotiable in this role.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and risks to both colleagues and clients.
* The ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines without compromising accuracy.
