The Role
General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business, with a strong emphasis on commercial success. You will play a critical role in shaping the company's strategic direction, managing a team of dedicated professionals, and ensuring that our customers receive top-notch service. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Elis Health and Safety Policy, legislative requirements and the safety and wellbeing of your team.
We are looking for a self-motivated and results-driven general manager to direct and manage our business activities and to develop and implement effective business strategies. The successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, superior knowledge of business functions, exceptional budgeting, and finance skills, and strong leadership qualities. The noteworthy general manager should account for all business activities, support staff development, enhance efficiency, improve revenue, enhance the organization's image, and meet overall growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure that all functions comply with Group and site HR and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
* Develop and implement strategies to achieve company goals and objectives.
* Lead and direct ongoing improvements in both operational and occupational safety. Ensure the timely investigation of all accidents and incidents and ensure that recommendations are implemented.
* Streamline operational processes and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. Implement best practices and monitor compliance.
* Lead the team of Production, Operations, Distribution and Customer Service to ensure all KPI's are achieved.
* Develop and agree a budget to meet business needs and to ensure the most efficient use of resources. Regularly run reports to analyse the results communicating with the relevant management team on costs and revenue and work on improvement plans for any variances to budget.
* Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to continuously improve the working environment.
* Implement performance management via appraisals and development programs.
* Be customer & commercially focused: push for improvements for existing customers, develop new business opportunities and grow the current client base.
* Effective recruitment and selection of new staff, ensuring all staff are properly trained and motivated to achieve the functional objectives.
* Encourage a culture of innovation, creativity and continuous improvement within the plant.
* Ensure Strategic goals are communicated out to wider team.
* Contribute to the reduction of impact to the environment.
* Responsible for achieving the overall resource plan that meets both the current and future business needs of the company. Work with site leadership teams to develop schemes for improvements within each department - maintaining optimum use of resource at all times.
* Ensure safe method of working by all staff and contractors to achieve statutory H&S requirements
Key Skills & Experience:
* Ideally degree level qualification in business administration/engineering or operations management or professional recognition in a relevant discipline.
* Recent experience from B2B, managing plant operations with technical knowledge covering Production, Engineering and service functions demonstrating a clear track record of success.
* Financial knowledge covering budgeting forecasting.
* Experience with ERP Systems (AX preferred).
* Extensive experience in people management and change management.
* Ability to persuade and influence people at all levels and develop good working relationships that promote team working.
* Ability to motivate people, with a coaching style that builds effective teams and manages performance positively
* An analytical and strategic thinker with good business acumen and the ability to think from the customers' perspective.
* Strong commercial awareness in monitoring operational performance of the plant.
* Exceptional decision-maker and communicator.
* Ideally would hold a management level Health & Safety qualification.
* Experience in working with Lean (Six Sigma) methodologies.
