Job description
We are looking for a patient, creative, and empathetic 1:1 Tutor to support a young person in Year 10, currently working at Key Stage 2 level. This learner has experienced extended periods out of school and requires a nurturing approach to re-engage with education.
About the Learner:
1. Presents with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
2. Can be very shy initially but builds strong relationships over time
3. Enjoys creative activities and responds well to imaginative, hands-on learning
4. Needs support with sentence structure, numeracy skills, and confidence building
Responsibilities:
5. Deliver 1:1 tutoring sessions focused on English and Maths
6. Integrate creative activities to support learning and engagement
7. Foster a safe and trusting environment to build self-esteem and confidence
8. Track progress and adapt sessions to meet evolving needs
About you:
9. Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or similar backgrounds
10. Ability to create engaging, creative lessons tailored to individual interests
11. Strong foundational skills in English and Maths (KS2 level)
12. A calm, consistent, and encouraging presence
13. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Position – Tutor

Full time/part-time – Between 10 hours per week
Hours – Various/ flexible hours
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
14. Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people Experience of working with learners with SEMH
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
15. Hold right to work in the UK
16. Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
17. Provide references upon request
18. Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
