Job Overview

The Medicine Division at North Bristol NHS Trust are excited to offer a 3 month opportunity to lead one of our complex care wards, Elgar Enablement Unit.

We are looking for a compassionate and highly motivated Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead our dedicated clinical team. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, good role model and motivated individual with a keen interest in caring for the elderly care population.

We are seeking a Nurse who is looking to further their career. Applicants should display effective leadership and management skills in order to lead the team to deliver high quality patient focused care.

You will be able to demonstrate progressive skills in leadership, advanced clinical practice and service development. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is committed to the provision of high quality and patient-centred care, continuous service and staff development and strong collaborative working with other agencies.

The successful applicant will work with the Matron to promote a culture that fosters staff involvement and a progressive attitude to service improvement, along with taking operational and clinical day to day management responsibility at team level using performance management systems. You will also work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

We are looking for a dynamic leader with substantial experience as a Registered Nurse with varied experience to join the senior leadership team within the medical division.

You will be responsible for promoting a high standard of evidence-based nursing care and multi-disciplinary work. You will be expected to adopt a team approach to problem-solving; therefore, excellent communication, management, and organisational skills are essential.

A strong approach to team working is vital for this role, and you must be a highly motivated, forward-thinking professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way. Working closely with the Clinical Matron, Directorate Senior Management and Allied Health Professionals, you will be expected to play a key role in the management and strategic development of the ward.

The successful applicant must also be able to demonstrate substantial experience at a senior level, usually gained at Band 6, working in a medical ward setting. Evidence of professional development is essential to the post.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

* Line manage a team of nursing staff working within the ward. Work closely with Matron to ensure the efficient and effective running of the area of responsibility.
* Have overall responsibility for ensuring their clinical area is safe.
* Deputise for the Matron and form part of the Divisional senior nursing team.
* Contribute to the development of patient-centred services.
* Be responsible for successfully attaining Trust and National quality and safety objectives within the area of responsibility.
* Provide expert clinical advice and care within the designated area of responsibility.

Person specification

Qualifications

* Degree
* Relevant Post registration qualification at level 3 / M

Work Experience

* Significant experience within specialty
* 3 years Band 6
* Evidence of participating in quality improvement with specialty
* Evidence of MDT working / community / safeguarding / dementia

Knowledge skills

* Leadership / management skills
* Extended roles / clinically credible
* Research and Audit experience
* Ability to lead and manage change

Personal Qualities

* Evidence of personal professional development
* Evidence of managing difficult situations
* Passionate about the care of older adults
* Ability to motivate teams
