The Trainee Facilities Engineer will work as part of the Facilities team to support the site’s footprint project, involving detailed surveys of existing aerospace assembly and process equipment. The role includes developing new layout configurations in collaboration with manufacturing engineering and the tooling team to optimize the layout and manage procurement, installation, and commissioning of infrastructure facilities, preparing for site move, commissioning, and handover.
This role is ideal for an engineer experienced in the aerospace industry looking to progress into facilities or project management roles.
What will I be doing?
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Analysis of industrial needs, feasibility studies, and initial proposals
* Design and layout drawings using CATIA and AUTOCAD
* Building services including lighting, compressed air, electrical infrastructure, and vacuum services
* Point of use services for assembly line: vacuum, electricity, air, data
* Ensuring compliance with legislation through collaboration with surveyors and professional bodies
* Working with suppliers to develop technical and commercial solutions
* Collaborating with manufacturing engineers, tooling, and HSE teams
* Strategic planning for future facilities needs
* Preparing facility specifications for RFQ tenders and buy-off criteria
* Recording critical geometry before fixture moves
* Planning and supervising safe lifting and movement of fixtures
* Managing contractors to meet Safran and UK SHE standards, including CDM legislation
* Producing technical data for training and handover to operations
* Supporting training and fault-finding post-commissioning
* Collaborating during installation and commissioning with suppliers

What you need from me?
Knowledge:
* Working knowledge of building services
* Understanding of aerospace production processes
Skills & Qualities:
* Time-served engineer, preferably aerospace
* Proficiency in CAD (2D & 3D CATIA)
* Qualified to HNC Mechanical Engineering
* Experienced with MS Office
* Good interpersonal and analytical skills
