Conservation Land Management Associate
The Escondido Creek Conservancy is seeking an energetic Conservation Land Management Associate to support land managers in overseeing over 3,000 acres of conservation land in the Escondido Creek watershed. This role primarily involves outdoor fieldwork with limited indoor administrative tasks.
Preferred candidates are located in North County, Escondido, or San Marcos area.
Job Duties:
The Associate will collaborate with the Conservation Director, Preserve Managers, staff, and volunteers to carry out land management activities. The position requires physical activity, including lifting at least 50 pounds and hiking 2-6 miles daily, and interaction with the public.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Monitoring conservation properties weekly and monthly, including invasive plant control, fence and sign installation, trail maintenance, trash removal, mapping, and restoration projects
* Controlling non-native predators
* Engaging with property owners and the public to promote stewardship
* Working with volunteer stewards and participating in community events
* Assisting during outreach and volunteer events
Skills and Qualifications:
Ideal candidates are passionate about wildlife and outdoor work. Relevant experience includes wildlife volunteering, internships, or land management activities like ranch or farm work. Candidates pursuing degrees in conservation, wildlife biology, planning, or related fields are encouraged to apply; a degree is not mandatory. GIS skills and knowledge of local ecology are beneficial but not required. The candidate should be organized, team-oriented, comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, and possess a flexible, proactive attitude. A valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle are required. All employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Reporting:
The Associate reports to the Conservation Director or Preserve Managers and collaborates with staff and volunteers.

Logistics:
The office is located at 27317 Mountain Meadow Road. Properties are spread throughout the watershed. The Conservancy owns two trucks for use by staff.
