Job Description Summary
At Dowty – a GE Aerospace company, we design, manufacture, repair, and overhaul a range of carbon fibre composite propeller systems for military and civil applications from our new state-of-the-art headquarters in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, UK.
The successful applicant will be part of a small but growing CNC Manufacturing Engineering team. You will focus on improving production processes, leading problem solving, and ensuring procedural compliance. Your responsibilities will include programming a range of CNC lathes and mills, standardizing approaches, and developing tool and parameter controls.
As a key figure in manufacturing, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders across planning, operations, quality, and engineering to maintain the fast-paced manufacture of airworthy products. We aim to translate design intent into production solutions, with a focus on continuous improvement and safety.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Resolve manufacturing issues within a diverse, skilled team in a self-motivated, pragmatic manner.
* Ensure safety and compliance in all daily tasks.
* Create and develop production techniques, prioritizing Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost (SQDC).
* Define manufacturing processes, process specifications, tooling solutions, and rework activities centered around CNC machining.
* Program milling & turning NC using Fanuc, Heidenhain, Catia V5, hyperMILL (online & offline).
* Verify and prove out new and existing programs.
* Identify and collaborate on solutions and improvements, from research to production.
* Contribute to modernizing the Manufacturing Engineering function to enhance productivity and quality.
* Present data-driven solutions using Lean and problem-solving methodologies (Six Sigma, Red X, 8D, Lean).
* Lead and support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities and represent the ME team in forums.
* Provide technical support to operations teams.
* Implement Lean systems, calculate process standard times, and create SOPs.
* Support daily shop floor management, escalations, and queries.

Minimum Qualifications
* Completed Manufacturing/Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3) or relevant manufacturing experience.
* Ability to interpret 2D drawings, specifications, and address manufacturability challenges.
* Solid understanding of Metrology principles, including hand measurement, CMM contact, and non-contact vision measurement.
* Knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
* Experience with online CNC programming for milling & turning machines.
* Understanding of GD&T principles.
Desired Characteristics
* Experience with Fanuc and Heidenhain CNC controllers.
* Experience with offline programming using CATIA V5 / hyperMILL.
* Experience with CMM programming/operation (Modus or PolyWorks software preferred).
* HNC in an Engineering discipline (Level 4).
