Offer description

Looking for a volunteering opportunity? See the latest Scotland wide volunteering opportunities at Volunteer Scotland. We also regularly update our website with the latest opportunities within West Lothian.

To find the right opportunity for you, use keywords and your postcode (e.g. EH48 1AX) to refine your search.

Bridge Community Project supports local people in Livingston who are facing financial hardship, offering help with dignity, care, and practical support. We’re looking for a Volunteer Financial Wellbeing Support to join our team, providing essential, person-centred support to individuals alongside our Money Advice Team. You’ll help clients access practical resources, build resilience, and maintain dignity while working toward long‑term financial stability.

This is a rewarding client‑facing role where your support — both practical and emotional — will make a real difference to the people we work with and the team delivering these services.

Experience in financial support, welfare rights, or advocacy work would be welcomed but isn’t essential. We’ll provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to help you feel confident in the role. The time commitment is flexible, with opportunities to volunteer weekly or fortnightly, and hours can be agreed to suit both you and the service.

What you’ll gain

* Be part of a friendly, inclusive team where you’re welcomed, respected, and valued
* Have a positive and rewarding experience, knowing your time is making a real impact
* Receive reimbursement for agreed out‑of‑pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
* Access learning and development opportunities, and the chance to use and grow your skills in a supportive environment

What you’ll be doing

* Help clients understand their options, build confidence, and work toward realistic, personalised plans/goals
* Attend home visits or appointments alongside a Money Adviser to provide reassurance and support
* Provide advocacy and emotional support, helping clients navigate systems and access the resources they need
* Assist with applications for grants and benefits in collaboration with the Money Adviser
* Help with admin relating to course materials and preparing information packs
* Keep case notes and records up to date in our client database
* Support clients in practical life skills such as shopping on a budget, balanced meal planning, and basic cooking
* Be part of a friendly, supportive team, helping out with practical tasks and events as needed
* Build connections with local support organisations and take part in training or development sessions to grow your skills

Experience required

* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to relate to and work in a non‑judgemental, confident and sensitive manner with vulnerable clients
* Comfortable using basic IT (email, Word/Google docs, spreadsheets)
* Knowledge and understanding of financial difficulties faced locally by individuals and resources to support them
* Ability to be self‑motivated and to work to a high standard

Desirable

* Experience in financial support, welfare rights, or advocacy work
* Competent in IT software and experience of using a data management system
* Knowledge of local services and grant application processes
* Training or experience in delivering group courses or workshops
* Full UK driving licence
