Pharmacist - Fortuneswell Pharmacy

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a registered Pharmacist to join our team at Fortuneswell Pharmacy. The pharmacy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and is located next to the Fortuneswell Chemotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital. Our service supplies medicines to patients and provides pharmaceutical advice to haematology and oncology outpatients and healthcare professionals. We have recently undergone a major refurbishment programme and are looking to extend the high level of service to the rest of Dorset County Hospital’s outpatients. A home delivery service to patients throughout Dorset is also provided.

Fortuneswell Pharmacy operates as a separate company to Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This role includes a Recruitment and Retention Premium of £3,000 payable as a single payment. This payment is subject to a pay back clause.


Main duties of the job

* Work alongside the superintendent pharmacist to deliver a high-quality, safe and efficient pharmacy service to outpatients at Dorset County Hospital.
* Clinically screen prescriptions and provide pharmaceutical advice to pharmacy staff, healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives.
* Contribute to the development of services and build relationships with the multi-disciplinary team.
* Act as the Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Superintendent Pharmacist.
* Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the dispensary in collaboration with the Dispensary Manager.
* Provide leadership and act as a role model for support staff.
* Improve existing services and develop new services.

Salary is negotiable and depends on experience, including the recruitment and retention premium.


Job responsibilities

* Ensure safe, efficient and effective delivery of pharmacy services offered by Fortuneswell Pharmacy.
* Act as Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Superintendent Pharmacist.
* Coordinate day-to-day operations of the dispensary with the Dispensary Manager.
* Provide leadership and act as a role model for support staff.
* Contribute to improvement of existing services and development of new services.


UKVI Sponsorship

This role is eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, as defined by UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI). Applications from individuals who require sponsorship to work in the UK will be considered, subject to meeting UKVI eligibility criteria.


Person Specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Post-registration experience as a Responsible Pharmacist in a busy community or hospital pharmacy.
* Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment.
* Knowledge of NHS Hospital prescribing and formulary awareness, typically gained through dispensing hospital outpatient prescriptions or review of discharge prescriptions in community.
* Hospital pharmacy experience.
* Experience leading a team in a busy dispensary environment.


Skills & Abilities

* Demonstrated ability to check prescriptions independently.
* Good and broad understanding of pharmacy practice to support and advise other staff.
* Demonstrated ability to work methodically and accurately.
* Ability to analyse and interpret prescriptions, identify problems and decide on appropriate actions.
* Work under minimum supervision.
* Work on own initiative, plan and organise straightforward activities, adjusting plans and priorities as necessary.
* Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
* Computer literacy and keyboard skills.
* Flexible team working, with ability to supervise, motivate and direct a team.
* Committed to continuing professional development.
* Take responsibility for own actions and decisions.


Education, Qualifications & Training

* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Registered Pharmacist with GPhC.
* Higher degree/Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent Postgraduate Diploma.
