We are currently seeking 6 new Environmental Crime Officers to join our National Investigations Team. Alongside our Senior Investigations Managers, Major Investigation Room and Illegal Waste Exports Team you will work within our National Environmental Crime Unit investigating the most serious and complex environmental offending occurring across the Country. Our investigations can be complex and varied in nature, often involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large scale fraud and you would be joining our nationally dispersed team of officers helping to bring these investigations to successful prosecution.
You will undertake enquiries such as interviews, surveillance operations, evidence gathering, analysing digital media devices, obtaining witness statements and helping identify lines of enquiry in order to help us build strong, robust prosecution cases and bring environmental offenders to justice.
You will work both independently and alongside your National and Area Enforcement colleagues spread across the Country, often working on a variety of different investigations at the same time. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a strong investigative background to bring their skills and experience into the world of Environmental Crime.
The team
You will join the Investigation Team embedded within the Environment Agency's National Environmental Crime Unit, part of Regulation and Monitoring, and will work on the most complex and significant environmental offending occurring across the Country. Regular national travel will be required as part of this role and there is also a requirement to attend our Major Investigation Room in Birmingham on a minimum once monthly basis. You should have a high level of attention to detail, be hard working and self motivated with a strong investigative background. You'll have a working knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA, excellent verbal and written skills and basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams). Some knowledge of environmental crime and the workings of a Major Incident Room would be desirable, but not essential. A background of being driven, self motivated, using your initiative and using innovative thinking to find solutions would be greatly beneficial. Successful completion of both SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes is required for this role and you will be required to obtain this within your 6 month probationary period. A full driving licence is also required.
