Job Description

New Directions Education is working with a welcoming primary school in Chester seeking an experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 2 with Autism. This full-time position begins in September 2025 and is expected to continue on a long-term basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact, offering consistent support and encouragement to help a child thrive in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism
2. Implement individual learning strategies and assist with daily tasks
3. Support emotional regulation and social interaction
4. Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to track progress
5. Promote a calm, inclusive and supportive learning space

Requirements:

6. Proven experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly Autism
7. Strong understanding of inclusive education practices
8. Patience, empathy and excellent communication skills
9. Minimum Level 2 TA qualification (Level 3 preferred)
10. Full-time availability from September 2025

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

11. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
12. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
13. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
14. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
15. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

Jobs in additional learning needs (ALN)

A large number of our jobs are in ALN and we fill many vacancies in schools with candidates who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

16. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
17. Dyslexia
18. Dyspraxia
19. Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
20. Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
21. Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
22. Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
23. Severe Learning Difficulties
24. Physical Disabilities (PD).

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

25. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
26. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
27. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
28. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
29. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
