About the Role
Haven Health and Howard House surgery in Felixstowe have multi-disciplinary teams who are serious about healthcare and achieving the best for all their patients but who like to work in a supportive and fun atmosphere. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible Practice Paramedic to work in the community treating both Haven Health and Howard House patients. The vacancy is for approximately 15 hours a week; however, flexibility is crucial to accommodate training, holidays and occasional sickness.
Suitable candidates must be able to work flexibly, autonomously and proactively in the community supporting both our housebound and care home patients.
Duties will include:
* Treating both housebound and care home patients across 2 surgeries.
* Seeing patients across multiple practice sites, care homes and for visiting patients in their place of residence, who present with a wide range of minor illness, urgent and same day requests for treatment and chronic disease management.
* Providing care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis.
* Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long‑term condition (as appropriate).
* Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug and non‑drug based treatment methods into a management plan.
* Accurately triage and prioritise patients, including in emergency situations, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical and drug history.
* Recognise, assess and refer patients presenting with mental health needs.
* Telephone triage as appropriate for clinics and home visits and care home ward rounds and provide access to GPs as necessary.
* Evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking and initiate appropriate treatment and / or referral, including admission to hospital if required.
* Signpost appropriately to other services.
* Treatment and evaluation of care.
* Leading on the various vaccination campaigns.
* Completing referrals where applicable.
* Working closely with GP's and debriefing following home visits.
* The home visiting team consists of 2 other paramedics and a community HCA.
About the Candidate
If you are an experienced paramedic wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and experience:
Essential:
* Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration.
* Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients.
* Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively.
Desirable:
* Have completed ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course.
* Experience working in primary care.
* Phlebotomy.
* SystmOne trained.
