The Business Development Senior Manager (BDM) role focuses on building and maintaining client relationships, originating opportunities, and winning profitable work within the Higher Education sector, specifically within the Education, Skills and Productivity (ESP) team in the Public Sector practice.
This role involves translating national ESP market strategies into regional growth plans, leading go-to-market strategies, developing pipelines, expanding contacts within universities, and supporting the development and marketing of advisory products like Powered Student.
The BDM will manage and grow target areas, influence internal and external stakeholders, and support strategy and account planning, with performance assessed through revenue growth, brand enhancement, and client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Leading the go-to-market strategy in Higher Education, focusing on pipeline development and conversion.
2. Expanding contacts within target universities and developing opportunities.
3. Launching new advisory products and developing sales pipelines.
4. Raising profile through conferences, speaking opportunities, and relationship management.
5. Managing CRM and pipeline processes effectively.
6. Supporting regional teams and strategy development.
7. Qualifying and pursuing opportunities, leading proposals, and coaching teams on sales best practices.
The individual should possess strong leadership, management, and influencing skills, with high attention to detail and follow-through. Success will be measured by sales, client relationships, and internal feedback.
Internal contacts include sector heads, leadership teams, and partners across functions.
Client Relationships:
* Developing new relationships and expanding existing ones.
* Focusing 80% of time on sales activities.
* Engaging with clients through face-to-face meetings and relationship events.
* Building relationships with regional influencers and managing sales pipelines.
Knowledge, Communication, and Coaching:
* Facilitating cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing.
* Mentoring and coaching team members in sales and relationship management.
* Sharing insights on sector trends and client needs.
Proposals:
* Managing tenders and pitch processes, ensuring strong client USPs and responses.

* Sales contributions and pipeline metrics.

* Feedback from stakeholders and contribution to the sales community.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Deep knowledge of UK Higher Education sector, gained through relevant experience.
* At least 6 years in sales or client-facing roles, preferably in professional services.
* Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
* Ability to drive growth and work under pressure.
* Excellent communication, influencing, and strategic thinking skills.
