Overview
Equans is looking for a Fabric Engineer to join our team at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a full-time permanent role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £28,000 - £30,000 per annum dependent upon skills and experience. In addition you will also receive an excellent benefits package.
This is a vital role in ensuring the hospital environment is safe, functional, and well-maintained for patients, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for a wide range of fabric maintenance tasks, working both independently and as part of a skilled team.
What you will deliver
* Support the Estates Management team in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service.
* Promote excellent customer service by liaising with stakeholders and addressing maintenance issues efficiently.
* Diagnose faults, repair, and maintain complex and specialised hospital equipment (with training provided).
* Undertake fabric-related tasks including carpentry, painting, fitting ironmongery, and flooring.
* Take part in the Fabric Team on-call rota, ensuring timely response to urgent issues.
* Work in challenging environments, such as unblocking drains/sewers and dealing with biological hazards or fumes.
* Liaise with the Stores Team for requisition, supply, and secure handling of materials.
* Monitor and check contractor work to ensure compliance with required standards.
* Adhere to statutory regulations, including Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and Electrical IEE regulations.
* Carry out cross-trade work as required, within your level of competence.
* Carry a radio or pager to provide immediate response when needed.

Who are you? / Qualifications
* NVQ or City & Guilds Craft Certificate relevant to the trade or similar recognised trade
* Competent in Flooring and Upholstery
* Experience in Building maintenance and systems
* Basic competence with IT and PDAs
* Due to the nature of the contract, successful candidate must be able to obtain a DBS Standard Check
