John Ross Jr (Aberdeen) Ltd, a proud Royal Warrant-holding producer of traditional Scottish smoked salmon –seeks an experienced Technical Manager to lead food safety, quality, and compliance at our BRC A* graded facility in Aberdeen Harbour.
About the Role
Reporting to the Site Director and, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing our Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with BRC, legal standards, and customer requirements.
This hands-on role involves leading internal audits, managing technical documentation, driving continuous improvement, and supporting production teams to maintain best-in-class food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all technical and food safety functions across the site
* Maintain and develop the Quality Management System (QMS)
* Ensure BRC v9 and customer code compliance
* Manage HACCP, hygiene, allergen controls, and GMP standards
* Investigate complaints and implement corrective actions
* Support new product development and process improvements
* Lead internal audits and prepare for external inspections
* Manage supplier approval, specifications, and traceability
* Mentor and develop QA and hygiene teams
* Communicate effectively with production, senior management and customers
Requirements
* Proven experience in food manufacturing technical management
* In-depth knowledge of BRC, HACCP (Level 3 minimum; Level 4 preferred), and food safety legislation
* Scientific or technical qualification (HND or degree level preferred)
* Strong organisational, leadership, multitasking and communication skills
* Experience with retailer CoPs and allergen management
* High Care/High Risk experience preferred
* Internal/third-party auditing experience (BRC or ISO)
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
* Proficiency in multiple portal access and data loading for customer platforms
