Job Summary
We are delighted to offer an excellent opportunity with one of our lovely clients based in Dorchester. They seek a Veterinary Surgeon to join the warm and experienced team in their recently refurbished 24 hour hospital which sits just a short drive from the magnificent Jurassic Coast, providing the ideal balance between professional challenge and an inspiring location.
As a multi-disciplinary hospital with a strong regional profile, the hospital supports out-of-hours services for twelve practices across the area. You will be welcomed into a dynamic and collaborative team that includes certificate holders in diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, dermatology and ECC, alongside several colleagues actively pursuing further surgical qualifications.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of facilities and services, including a CT scanner for internal and outpatient referrals, digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy, as well as two fully equipped sterile surgical suites. They also house a dedicated in-house laboratory, a hydrotherapy unit staffed twice weekly, and benefit from support from a peripatetic physiotherapist. The hospital includes isolation facilities and separate dog and cat wards, and proudly holds ISFM Silver Cat Friendly status. Around-the-clock care is assured thanks to the ECC‑certified night vet and dedicated nursing team.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a busy hospital setting and is eager to contribute to a passionate, high‑performing team. The role is part‑time, offering 21 hours per week with participation in a one‑in‑six weekend rota.
Benefits and Compensation
Joining them brings a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your wellbeing, development and work–life balance. You will have access to Private Medical Insurance and a health cash plan that covers dental, physiotherapy and optical care, along with a 24/7 Private GP service. Life Assurance is provided at three times your salary, and confidential counselling support is available by phone or in person whenever needed. Annual leave begins at five weeks plus Bank Holidays and increases to six weeks with service, complemented by an additional paid ‘Day for You’.
Professional development is encouraged through £1,500 annual CPD funding, three paid CPD days, internal learning opportunities, access to Clinical Communities and fully funded certificates.
