Head of Engineering – Healthtech Start-Up
London/Hybrid – up to £150,000
Our client is a growing healthcare technology business utilising AI to develop secure, scalable digital solutions that make it easier for patients to access care and for clinicians to deliver it. The organisation is at an exciting stage of its journey and is now looking to appoint a Head of Engineering to lead the technical function.
The role
Reporting directly into the founders, the Head of Engineering will take day‑to‑day ownership of the engineering team and technical landscape. You will be close to the tech, thus combining responsibility for delivery and architecture with the ongoing development of people, processes and tools in a start‑up setting.
Responsibilities
* Shape and maintain the overall technical direction, ensuring the platform is reliable, secure and able to scale as the business grows.
* Line‑manage, support and develop a small engineering team, and create an environment where people can do their best work.
* Provide technical leadership & guidance, whilst modelling good practice around code quality, testing and documentation.
* Establish and refine ways of working (Agile methods, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring) to improve speed of delivery and system stability.
* Ensure that products and infrastructure meet relevant healthcare, data protection and information security requirements.
Skills and experience sought
* Ideally a minimum of three years in a Head of Engineering or Senior Engineering Manager position.
* Strong track record as a senior engineer, with experience delivering and operating production systems end‑to‑end.
* Background in start‑ups or high‑growth organisations, with the ability to adapt quickly and make pragmatic decisions.
* Demonstrable experience of managing and developing engineers.
* Good understanding of engineering practices, such as DevOps approaches, automation and building security into design.
