We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Nurse to join Milton Keynes University Hospital’s Research & Development department in this permanent role. You will be liaising with clinical teams to recruit eligible patients, support delivery of clinical interventions, and conduct tests according to specific study protocols. Responsibilities include study follow-up, data entry, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining high standards of quality assurance. You will have the opportunity to be involved in setting up new trials and working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality clinical research. This role offers the chance to gain knowledge and experience in research, IT platforms, data management, governance processes, and logistics alongside your clinical skills.

The ideal candidate would have relevant post-registration experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good timekeeping, prioritization skills, and a willingness to learn and develop within the role.

Main duties of the job

Experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics, ICU, and Surgery would be beneficial, though you may work across different areas depending on departmental needs. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and contribute to the future of healthcare.

The post holder will work within the Research Team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, aiming to promote patient entry into clinical trials. You will support senior nurses in raising awareness, delivery, and follow-up on clinical trials, increasing patient recruitment in line with NIHR objectives.

Key responsibilities include recruiting, educating, and monitoring patients entering trials, maintaining accurate records, and working closely with clinical teams to improve care and outcomes. Delivery of the service level agreement with the East of England Regional Research Delivery Network (EoERRDN) is essential.

Contracts will be issued by Milton Keynes University Hospital on behalf of the EoERRDN.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

Assist with implementing, developing, and facilitating trials within the research team, involving clinicians to meet the objectives of the EoERRDN, including:

• Reviewing trial protocols for resource implications.
• Contributing to study interest and selection processes.

Communication

• Promote trial involvement among clinical and patient communities; explain trials clearly and empathetically.
• Liaise with MDT members regarding trial issues before, during, and after trials.

Education

• Attend meetings and conferences related to research.
• Stay updated on medical advances and research to maintain high standards of care.

Educating others

• Participate in delivering education on clinical trials to healthcare staff.
• Assist in developing training programs.

Professional

• Comply with NMC Code and scope of practice.
• Maintain registration and involvement in CRP initiatives.

Management

• Manage own workload and adhere to timelines.
• Follow Trust procedures and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
