Position Overview

We are seeking a professional, compassionate, and dependable individual to join our dedicated team as a Funeral Operative on a casual basis. This role is central to the dignified and respectful delivery of our funeral services and requires an individual who takes great pride in their work, demonstrates excellent attention to detail, and upholds the highest standards of care and professionalism.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and delivery of funerals, ensuring that all tasks are conducted with the utmost respect, sensitivity, and discretion. This position will involve variable working hours and requires a flexible approach, including availability to work on-call, during evenings, and through the night, as required by the needs of the business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

* Collection and Care of the Deceased:

Assist in the dignified and respectful collection, transfer, and care of the deceased from hospitals, private residences, and other locations.

* Preparation and Presentation:

Support in preparing the deceased and ensuring all presentation standards are maintained to the highest level.

* Vehicle Operation:

Drive company vehicles, including hearses and limousines, safely, confidently, and in accordance with all legal and company requirements.

* Funeral Attendance and Support:

Assist at funeral services, ensuring that each service is conducted smoothly, professionally, and respectfully, while providing discreet support to families, clergy, and colleagues.

* Teamwork and Coordination:

Work closely with colleagues to carry out all duties efficiently and with care, including bearing coffins and assisting with logistical arrangements.

* Maintenance Duties:

Maintain vehicles, premises, and equipment to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and readiness.

* Professional Conduct:

Represent the company with dignity and respect at all times, upholding the reputation and values of our organisation.

Essential Requirements

* Full UK Manual Driving Licence (required).
* Excellent driving skills and confidence in handling large vehicles.
* Reliable, punctual, and professional with a strong work ethic.
* Physically fit, capable of safely lifting and carrying heavy weights as part of a team.
* Flexible availability – must be prepared to work on a casual, as-required basis, including being on call and attending out-of-hours removals, including at night and weekends.
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with colleagues, families, and members of the public.
* High level of personal presentation and adherence to company dress standards.
* Previous experience within the funeral profession or a related role is highly desirable, though training will be provided for the right candidate.

Hours of Work

This is a casual position. Hours will vary in accordance with the needs of the business, and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and nights. Candidates must be flexible and willing to be contacted at short notice to assist when required.
