Software Architect - Bristol
(Hybrid role – typically 3–4 days on-site per week)
Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE
Security Clearance: British Citizenship
The Opportunity:
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Software Architect, or a highly capable Senior Software Engineer ready to take the next step. You will be responsible for defining and leading the software architecture for complex, safety-critical systems at the forefront of defence technology. Working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, you will help shape robust, secure and scalable software solutions that underpin next-generation weapon system designs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Define, document and own the full software architecture for major projects, from concept through to implementation.
• Establish the structural and temporal architecture, ensuring consistency and integrity across components.
• Identify and manage design drivers such as real-time performance, safety, security, flexibility and reusability.
• Produce derived and emergent requirements with clear rationale and traceability.
• Collaborate closely with systems, hardware and software engineers to ensure technical alignment.
• Contribute to long-term technology strategy, influencing tools, frameworks and architectural direction.
What We’re Looking For:
• Strong technical background in software design and architecture.
• Experience with model-based engineering and software design patterns.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. C++, C#, Java, Python).
• Knowledge of modern engineering practices such as continuous integration and automated testing.
• Ability to explain complex architectural concepts clearly and mentor development teams.
• Skilled communicator with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
