Overview
You will be part of a team of security professionals whose aim will be to give people confidence that they are in a safe and secure environment whilst on and around the University estate, and to ensure the security of the estate, its buildings and property.
Responsibilities
* Respond to incidents, primarily on the University estate and more occasionally off-site, to support staff, students and visitors, and deal with matters affecting property. Liaise with, and where necessary direct, those involved.
* Work closely with colleagues in other units to provide support, in particular, Student Services, Wardens in Halls of Residence, the Student Conduct Officer and Environmental, Health and Safety Services.
* Carry out patrols to, from and of University buildings and properties to check for fire, flood, safety and security.
* Work within the Control Room to monitor and manage communications, CCTV and alarm systems, remote system indications, and operate the incident management system.
* Deal with conflict in a proportionate manner, utilising communication skills and de-escalation techniques.
* Participate in training during deployment, as part of a probationary period, which may include some external training for which travel and accommodation expenses will be provided.
* Undergo and pass training in an accredited Emergency First Aid at Work course and Higher Education Safety and Security.
* Work as part of a team providing a 24/7, all year round service with a 12-hour day shift / night shift pattern. Premium Hours Payment of additional 1/3rd time is paid for hours between 10 pm and 6 am where those hours are not subject to any other overtime rate, equating to an approximate 11% uplift in salary reflected in the on-target earnings shown above.
Requirements and Training
* Basic Disclosure check required before appointment.
* Training and probationary period as part of the role, including Emergency First Aid at Work and Higher Education Safety and Security training.
Location
This post will be primarily based at the University Security Control Room located within the town centre area of St. Andrews.
