The Role
Electrical Layout Designer for Capital Projects on DNO systems up to and including 132 kV, producing detailed design drawings using AutoCAD and working closely with Project Managers, Construction Engineers, and Design Engineers to achieve programme objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Accountable for developing and implementing electrical layouts that deliver cost‑effective solutions for Major Electricity Projects.
* Ensure that project designs are developed in the appropriate and consistent format.
* Manage appropriate contractors throughout the project life cycle, liaising with project managers, design, construction and project control sections.
* Provide accurate forecasts of information for the range of projects under their control.
* Manage Drawing Archives and the Document Management System.
* Produce technical specifications for plant and associated layouts, including structures, insulators, busbars and connectors.
* Develop and agree on appropriate design standards for electrical layouts with the layout team and other departments.
* Produce Lighting, Small Power and earthing designs.
* Attend Option Approval Group site meetings and other site surveys to develop electrical layouts using the Standard Solutions Methodology.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and demonstrable layout experience.
* Expert user of AutoCAD.
* Good knowledge of 132 kV, 33 kV and 11/6.6 kV systems and substations, including switchgear, transformers, overhead and underground circuits.
* Experience with electrical engineering design & practices and a good understanding of the electricity distribution business.
* Experience of CDM regulations relating to utility projects.
* Good team working and communication skills.
* Creative thinker, able to pre‑empt project/schedule issues and adapt to change.
* Capable of drawing accurately to scale using model and paper space, layering, etc., and manipulating views effectively.
* Able to produce plans and elevations from site measurements or archive drawings.
