Job Description
As our exciting expansion into Cambois, Blyth moves a step closer to completion, we are recruiting for a Test Technician.
As a key member of the Quality team, you will be responsible for conducting both electrical cable splicing and Medium and High Voltage Electrical and Optical Cable Testing Activities.
Main responsibilities of the role:
* Perform electrical testing on high-voltage cables throughout the manufacturing process, including sample preparation and test report submission. Testing methods include:
* High Voltage Testing
* Partial Discharge Testing
* Conductor Resistance Testing
* Insulation Resistance Testing
* TDR Testing
* Conduct testing on fibre optic cables and prepare associated samples and reports.
* Carry out jointing activities, including cable preparation, testing, results submission, and report preparation.
* Complete cable repairs in line with approved procedures and document all associated testing and results.
* Manage calibration of testing equipment, working closely with internal teams and third-party suppliers.
* Support the Lead Quality Engineer in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities.
* Attend key departmental meetings and provide updates on testing KPIs and action plans.
Desired Competencies:
* Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical specifications and test plans.
* Strong background in electrical cable testing methods and international standards.
* Experience in electrical testing, particularly high voltage testing is preferred.
* Knowledge of cable splicing and associated testing methods.
* Clear and effective communication skills with teams and stakeholders.
* Ability to collaborate across departments and work effectively within a team.
* Strong manual, practical, and problem-solving skills.
* Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
* Flexible approach to working hours.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Previous experience in cable splicing.
* Previous experience in high-voltage cable testing.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications:
* Technical qualification in Electrical Engineering or Science (HNC/HND preferred).
