About the role
A fantastic opportunity to join the Boots & No.7 Beauty Company Financial Controls team as Head of Finance, Technical Accounting and Projects. This role is key in driving accounting quality and change into an evolving financial reporting landscape, under both IFRS and US GAAP.
Providing technical accounting oversight and advice to stakeholders across the wider Boots business, including UK, ROI, Opticians, and No.7 BC, in partnership with the Corporate Technical Accounting teams. This role offers exposure to various key business plans and projects.
As a member of the Extended Finance Leadership Team and the Controllership Leadership Team, you will lead technical accounting processes for the wider Boots business, advising on projects and ensuring appropriate accounting decisions. You will mentor the Finance Manager, Technical Accounting, and participate in other finance initiatives.
Key responsibilities
1. Lead technical accounting processes including impairment reviews, pensions, IFRS16, and other areas.
2. Review and guide business transactions such as acquisitions, reorganizations, new ventures, and investments.
3. Collaborate with finance, corporate teams, tax, and stakeholders, applying technical accounting and controls expertise.
4. Approve and document accounting judgements, develop robust control processes.
5. Implement new accounting standards into the business.
6. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting processes.
7. Develop and train the finance team, especially the Finance Manager, Technical Accounting.
8. Coordinate with auditors on technical accounting areas and manage audit processes.
9. Support system development projects ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
10. Assist the Financial Controller with ad-hoc tasks and projects.
What you'll need to have
* Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) with 3+ years' post-qualification experience.
* Strong technical accounting skills, with knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.
* Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts effectively.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to meet deadlines and manage diverse tasks.
* Collaborative mindset, with a focus on compliance and standards.
* Commitment to self-development and knowledge sharing.
Desirable skills and experience
* Pensions accounting under IFRS and US GAAP.
* Impairment reviews and asset modelling.
* Lease accounting under US GAAP and IFRS.
* Group reporting and consolidation.
* Experience with statutory audits and accounts preparation.
