This is an ideal opportunity for someone who:
1. Has extensive expertise in highway construction, maintenance, and road safety engineering.
2. Has extensive knowledge of contract and project management techniques, including cost and quality control specific to highway maintenance projects
3. Knowledge of theory and practice including regulations, legislation and processes specific to highway maintenance and road safety engineering
4. Extensive knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical application across highway maintenance, construction, and repairs.
Key responsibilities:
5. Ability to plan projects and the work of others, including team members and contractors
6. Ability to persuade and influence a wide range of internal and stakeholders, and motivate teams of technical staff
7. Planning will typically be over weeks and months for a specific project, but the role holder will need to plan project work and deal with competing demands.

It is not essential that you have worked for a Council or the public sector previously, as appropriate mentoring and training will be provided.
The Council offers several benefits, including a generous pension scheme and leave allowance, various flexible working options and access to appropriate further training and education. This includes a training agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers to coordinate both the academic and practical training leading to a professional qualification: either EngTech MICE, or IEng MICE, or CEng MICE.
