The Department of Life Sciences is seeking an outstanding researcher as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery to support our successful MPharm undergraduate degree. This is a full-time, three-year fixed-term position starting 1st August 2025.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for an established researcher with an internationally competitive research program to develop new synergies within our department, which integrates Pharmacy & Pharmacology and Biology & Biochemistry. Current research strengths include peptide-based drug discovery, antimicrobial development, DNA interaction, CNS-active compounds, and organoid models.
You should have an active research program and a proven track record of impactful publications in Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Drug Discovery, including areas like:
* New chemical modalities
* Biologics
* Novel biological targets
* Chemical probes
* Computational chemistry
* Natural products
You will conduct innovative research, contribute to undergraduate and master's teaching, supervise postgraduate students, and may undertake additional support roles such as Academic Advisor.
About the Department
The Department of Life Sciences was established in 2022 through a merger of Biology & Biochemistry and Pharmacology & Pharmacy. Located on the main campus, it fosters interdisciplinary collaboration with research centers in Drug Discovery, Bioengineering, and Evolution. Facilities include advanced imaging, chemical characterization, cryo-EM, and various laboratories.
