The purpose of this role is to ensure the delivery of service in the laboratory in line with the accreditation standard and expectation of key accounts and efficient day-to-day operation of the relevant section of the laboratory.
Please note this is a fixed term contract ending 11/02/2026. Working 37.5 hours per week - Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 till 17:00.
1. To train, motivate and monitor junior members of the team.
2. To be responsible for the analytical records and delegate duties as required.
3. Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner.
4. Supervision of staff in relevant section of the laboratory to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory.
5. Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team.
6. Lead site induction and Health and Safety induction for new starters.
7. Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard.
8. To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets.
9. Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
10. Advise Laboratory Manager/Coordinator without delay of any problems affecting operations in relevant area of the laboratory.
11. Ensure that any relevant paperwork related to the production of media is kept up to date.
12. Responsible for maintaining some stock inventory in relevant areas of the laboratory.
13. Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual.
14. A flexible approach to work will be required to help assist other departments as and when required.
15. Act as a deputy to the Laboratory Manager/Laboratory Coordinator and Training Manager/ Training Coordinator.
Qualifications
16. Degree in related scientific subject.
17. Practical knowledge of commercial laboratory operation.
18. Proven experience of practical application of microbiological/chemical analysis.
19. Knowledge and understanding of microbiological/chemical analysis and food industry standards.
20. Good computer and typing skills.
21. Effective communication skills both written and oral.
22. Excellent interpersonal skills.
23. High level of attention to detail.
24. To be able to communicate highly technical material to different levels within the business and to gain the confidence of the client.
