Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Northampton is a powerhouse of the UK's "High Performance Technology" sector and a historic center for precision manufacturing. We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Design & Technology (D&T) Teacher to join an innovative department. In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern engineering, preparing students for careers in everything from product design to high-tech automotive manufacturing.

-----------------------------------

The Department

* You will join a forward-thinking faculty that treats the workshop as a center for innovation and problem-solving.

* The school features state-of-the-art facilities, including dedicated CAD/CAM suites (equipped with 3D printers and laser cutters), high-spec woodworking and metalworking machinery, and electronics labs.

* We follow a "Design Thinking" curriculum, encouraging students to research, prototype, and iterate their ideas in response to real-world user needs.

* We leverage our proximity to Silverstone and the "Motorsport Valley" to provide students with insight into the advanced materials and engineering processes used in elite performance technology.

-----------------------------------

Core Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Delivery: Teaching D&T across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE/Technical Awards), with the opportunity to specialize in Product Design, Engineering, or Systems & Control at A-Level.

2. Technical Instruction: Leading hands-on workshops in wood, metal, and polymers, ensuring students master both hand-tool techniques and the operation of heavy machinery.

3. Digital Design: Guiding students in the use of industry-standard CAD software (such as 2D Design, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks) to create high-precision prototypes.

4. Health & Safety Leadership: Maintaining a safe and organized workshop environment, ensuring all students are trained in rigorous health and safety protocols and that machinery is regularly inspected.

5. Project Management: Supporting students through the NEA (Non-Exam Assessment) process, helping them document their design journey from initial sketch to final evaluative prototype.

-----------------------------------

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a designer and maker who can inspire students to turn their ideas into reality. Requirements include:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering, or a related discipline.

* Technical Breadth: A high level of proficiency across a range of materials and a firm grasp of both traditional making skills and modern manufacturing technologies.

* Creativity: The ability to design engaging projects that challenge students to think critically about sustainability, ergonomics, and material properties.

* Organization: Exceptional classroom management skills, with the ability to manage complex logistics, stock levels, and project deadlines across multiple year groups.

-----------------------------------

Why Join Us?

* A school that recognizes D&T as a flagship subject, essential for students' success in the regional tech and engineering economy.

* Access to specialized professional development focused on the latest CAD/CAM software and advanced workshop safety certifications (e.g., DATA).

* The opportunity to work in Northampton—a town with a proud industrial heritage and a thriving modern business community, offering excellent transport links via the M1 and rail networks.

* A supportive, professional staff culture that values collaborative design and the sharing of technical expertise.
