As a member of the Operational Services Team the postholder will be required to:Be responsible for the effective and efficient maintenance of the Council’s entire vehicle fleet including refuse vehicles, commercial trucks, light vans, tractors, heavy plant and grounds maintenance equipment.Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy commercial plant/vehicles including servicing and preparation for PSV’s and MOT’s, periodic vehicle safety checks, preventative maintenance and daily response maintenance/repairs.The post holder will assume other delegated duties appropriate to the post reasonably assigned by management.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose, repair, service and carry out maintenance of all required heavy commercial plant/vehicles. Carry out repairs to vehicle and plant hydraulic systems.
* Carry out fabrication and welding (electric and gas) work/repairs, as required. Service and prepare vehicles for PSV’s and MOT’s. Complete maintenance job cards as required.
* Make various pieces of equipment as required.
* Carry out periodic vehicle safety checks, preventative maintenance, daily response maintenance/repairs and routine maintenance repairs.
* Carry out servicing in accordance with the planned schedule
* Carry out and record periodic vehicle safety checks, as required.
* Assist in the implementation of Health & Safety policies and procedures within the Garage/workplace. Ensure all Health & Safety legislation, published relevant guidelines and Council Health & Safety policies and procedures are complied with
* Ensure that quality standards, work instructions and records in accordance with Quality Accreditation systems agreed by the Council are followed and maintained.
* Maintain a high level of good housekeeping within the Garage/workplace.
* Undertake identified and approved training activities/updates and maintain the required skill level to carry out the requirements of the post.
Skills and Qualifications

* Time served motor mechanic. A recognised Motor Vehicle Trade qualification to either NVQ level 3 or City & Guilds 381 parts 1 and 2, or equivalent.
* A minimum of three years’ (post apprenticeship) employment experience of heavy commercial plant/vehicle repairs and maintenance.
* A full (i.e.) not provisional and current Class C Driving Licence
