Senior Payroll and Time & Attendance Officer

Overview
DP World are recruiting for a Senior Payroll & Time & Attendance Officer to join our payroll team in Hinckley. The role will play a key part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees. Although this is an in-house payroll function, it operates with the complexity and service expectations of a client payroll environment, supporting multiple internal stakeholders with varying payroll needs.
Responsibilities
* Accurately process end-to-end in-house payroll across multiple departments or business units, with client-style service standards.
* Ensure all statutory deductions (e.g., tax, National Insurance, pensions) are correctly applied and paid.
* Review and reconcile payroll data and reports prior to payroll finalization.
* Prepare and process adjustments, overtime, bonuses, and other variable payments.
* Deliver payroll services to internal stakeholders with the same attention to service and detail as would be expected in a client payroll bureau.
* Serve as the primary administrator for UKG (Kronos) timekeeping systems, including configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.
* Manage system security roles and user access.
* Coordinate with IT, vendors, and third parties to resolve technical problems.
* Monitor daily exceptions, missed punches, and unapproved time.
* Review and audit timekeeping data for accuracy prior to payroll processing.
* Ensure compliance with company policies, collective bargaining agreements, and relevant legislation (e.g., Working Time Regulations, holiday pay rules).
* Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
* Develop and deliver training for managers, supervisors, and employees on timekeeping best practices and system use.
* Provide second-level support for complex queries and escalations from the HR or payroll team.
* Lead or support payroll system upgrades and implementations, acting as the UKG (Kronos) subject matter expert in cross-functional projects.
* Ensure payroll accuracy in line with HMRC and company policies, manage year-end processes (P60s, P11Ds), and produce required reports and audit trails.
* Serve as the first point of contact for payroll queries, mentor junior staff, and assist the Payroll Manager with team training and task delegation.
Qualifications
* GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English (essential).
* CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or equivalent (desirable).
* Proven experience in a payroll processing role, ideally within a senior or supervisory capacity.
* Experience working in an in-house payroll function with client-style service levels or in a client payroll bureau.
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and auto-enrolment.
* Experience with payroll software systems (e.g., IRIS, Sage, ADP, or similar).
* Experience managing payroll for multiple departments, entities, or cost centres.
* Experience working with Time and Attendance software, UKG Kronos desirable.
* Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively and support a team environment.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
