Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including electricity, giant plant rooms, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactionary maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment which make up the baggage systems in Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximizing operational uptime. This shift-based role includes night and weekend work.
This role supports Baggage operations with assets like Conveyor Systems, Sortation Machines, Carousels, Scanners, PLCs, and IT Control Systems.
What will you do?
* Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance.
* Update engineering and operational records.
* Support performance improvement activities.
* Ensure safety responsibilities, including PPE use, mandatory training, and incident reporting.
* Use GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office).
* Develop skills to maintain and operate assets.
* Undertake role-specific training.
* Work in passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport.
* Collaborate with others; this role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Advanced modern apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
* Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (Level 3/ONC).
* Experience in maintenance environments.
* Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
* Experience in relevant engineering disciplines.
* Ability to improve system performance.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving license.
Interview Process
* Stage 1: 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
* Stage 2: 1-hour technical assessment with Hiring Manager and Engineering Leader.
