About the role
This senior-level position is a key part of the Director General’s executive board and oversees a diverse team of 138 professionals. The Chief Membership Officer will inspire people to consider civil and infrastructure engineering, recruit members, and help them qualify and maintain their engagement throughout their careers. This role involves leading ICE’s activities to promote civil and infrastructure engineering, recruit members, and support their professional development.
Above all, the CMO will help maintain and develop a modern, vibrant, and engaged membership organisation, integrating the needs of multiple stakeholders of all ages and experience, and harnessing the power and enthusiasm of our members. Significant intellectual capability and agility are required to ensure all members’ needs and wishes are met. Growing our membership will be a key focus, alongside driving retention and engagement of current members.
Responsibilities
Customers and Stakeholders:
* Deliver engagement, inspiration, recruitment, and qualification strategies.
* Ensure the ICE Group maintains a member/customer-focused approach in strategy and service delivery, with measurable improvement targets.
* Represent the Membership division in stakeholder groups to support business results and gain buy-in.
* Set and agree on targets with business units to drive growth.
* Build and maintain relationships with key members and external stakeholders to support business development and enhance the membership offer.
* Support the VP and Trustee Chairs to enable the Membership, International, and UK Regional Affairs Committees to provide strategic direction.
Operational:
* Engage strategically with ICE directors, VPs, the Trustee board, and the Council to develop and implement long-term plans.
* Develop and deliver strategic plans for sustainable growth and retention, both nationally and internationally.
* Establish partnerships with other organisations aligned with strategic goals.
* Create compelling membership offerings to attract and retain a diverse membership base.
* Set objectives to foster innovation within all business units to improve satisfaction and drive growth.
* Monitor and report on membership service delivery via KPIs.
* Ensure compliance with licensing requirements of the Engineering Council and Society for the Environment.
* Lead the implementation and training of ICE’s new CRM system, scheduled for 2025, and propose future enhancements.
* Perform other duties as needed to support ICE’s success.
People:

Experience:
* Substantial leadership experience managing complex operations, people, and policies in a comparable-sized organization.
* Experience in developing and executing strategy within membership bodies or customer-oriented organizations.
* Experience in education, learning, or professional development is advantageous.
* Experience working in international and matrix organizations is beneficial.
