About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to join our Power T&D team on the 400kV Beauly to Blackhillock overhead line project in Scotland.
The HSW Manager will support the Operations/Project Director, Head of HS&W, and Project Senior Teams to achieve our Zero Harm objectives. They will drive the performance of the relevant HSW teams, ensuring efficient and effective service and support levels to meet and, where possible, exceed operational requirements.
What you'll be doing
* Manage daily Health and Safety resources to support Operations in implementing the Health and Safety Policy and standards across all Business Units in their area of responsibility.
* Manage resource allocation and deployment of competent HS&W delivery resources across their area, ensuring data is collected and used to support risk-based scheduling.
* Support work winning and bid support for operational teams as needed.
* Facilitate employee engagement and participation within the region in line with Zero Harm activities.
* Oversee inspection and audit programs to ensure ongoing compliance with the Business Management System (BMS).
* Fulfill HS&W, Customer, and Balfour Beatty incident reporting and performance requirements (e.g., 7 Day Report, KPIs).
* Ensure timely and effective responses to HS&W incidents, act as incident lead when required, and track actions and recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with Project Directors and Operations Directors to review HSES performance using lagging and leading indicators.
* Support the Operations/Project Director with contract/project level SHELTs to drive HS&W improvement plans.
* Share learning and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Health and Safety strategy.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in Health and Safety legislation and best practices.
* Lead, develop, and coach individuals to build high-performing teams and create a pipeline of talent.
* Develop professional relationships with customers and their HS&W professionals.
* Ensure key stakeholders are aligned on priorities and details of the HS&W Strategy and Plans.
Who we're looking for
The ideal candidate will have:
* Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards it).
* NVQ Level 4/5 qualification.
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma.
* Detailed technical knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and guidance.
* Experience in the construction industry, particularly with CDM regulations (specific sector experience is advantageous).
* Prior leadership and support experience for operational and functional teams.
