Senior Hydraulic Modeller, South East, UK
We are currently working with a leading environmental and engineering consultancy with over employees worldwide. They are seeking a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join their team in Hayward's Heath, West Sussex.
Their hydraulic modelling team supports clients such as local authorities, the Environment Agency, SEPA, Natural Resources Wales, DfI-Rivers, the World Bank, insurance companies, utility companies, and developers, delivering flood risk and environmental management studies.
This role involves working on flood risk projects, including flood mapping, flood defence strategies, catchment modelling, and surface water flooding solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering teams to provide technical advice on flood defence designs, impacting local communities and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead technical delivery of flood management projects, ensuring quality and client satisfaction.
2. Develop strategies for existing workstreams and identify expansion opportunities for the modelling team.
3. Promote technical innovation to enhance efficiency and quality, sharing new methodologies and tools.
4. Engage with clients, hydraulic modellers, project managers, and design teams.
5. Mentor and support less experienced team members.
6. Contribute to business development through modelling expertise.
7. Collaborate with Data Science and AI teams to explore advanced techniques like AI and Machine Learning.
The ideal candidate:
* Has experience in collaborative work, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Is self-motivated to improve performance and support team development.
* Is adaptable and able to work with various project teams locally and remotely.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental, or earth sciences.
* Chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIWEM) or commitment to achieve it.
Essential attributes:
* Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, Infoworks-ICM, etc., in urban and rural environments.
* Ability to solve complex hydraulic challenges.
* Knowledge of flood risk policy and management techniques.
* Project management skills, overseeing hydrological, hydraulic, and environmental inputs.
* Proficiency in GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS.
* Strong technical writing skills for bids and reports.
Desirable attributes:
* Knowledge of CFD and other modelling techniques.
* Understanding of UK hydrological methodologies.
* Experience liaising with clients and managing projects.
* Ability to develop engineering solutions with design teams.
* Commercial awareness and project delivery experience.
