About the Role

Were looking for an Outreach Recovery Worker to join our Recovery Steps Cumbria team based in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in peoples lives, supporting individuals throughout their recovery journey and helping them access the services they need to achieve positive, lasting change.

Working across Barrow and the surrounding communities, youll provide outreach support to individuals who may be vulnerable, marginalised, or finding it difficult to engage with treatment and recovery services. Managing your own caseload, youll build trusting relationships, deliver person-centred interventions, and help people overcome barriers to accessing support.

This is a varied role that combines both independent and team-based working. Youll collaborate closely with colleagues and partner agencies, including housing providers, healthcare professionals, and criminal justice services, to ensure individuals receive holistic support tailored to their needs.

No two days are the same. While the role can involve supporting people with complex needs and encouraging ongoing engagement with recovery programmes, it also offers the opportunity to see the genuine impact of your work as individuals progress towards healthier, more stable lives.

About You

Youll be passionate about supporting others, resilient in your approach, and committed to helping people achieve positive outcomes. Youll be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing your own workload, and building rapport with individuals who may be difficult to engage.

You will:

  • Hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or be willing to work towards it
  • Have a good understanding of substance misuse and the challenges individuals may face in accessing support
  • Be confident managing a caseload and supporting people with complex needs
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Be willing to work flexibly within community settings, including occasional late evening work when required

Experience within outreach services, drug and alcohol support, mental health, housing, social care, or related fields would be advantageous, although we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a genuine desire to support others.

Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

What We Offer

We value the people who make a difference every day. Alongside meaningful work, youll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package:

  • 27 days annual leave, rising to 32 after 1 year (plus bank holidays)

  • Pension scheme with 4.5% employer contribution, matched up to 6.5%

  • Life assurance (3 annual salary)

  • Enhanced sick pay and family-friendly pay

  • Birthday leave and the option to buy up to 5 extra days annual leave

  • Professional fee reimbursement for relevant qualifications

  • 24/7 online GP access and Employee Assistance Programme
