Managing Violence & Aggression (MAV) Advisor

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a committed and confident professional to join our Practical Training Unit as a Management of Violence and Aggression (MAV) Advisor. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact on safety, confidence and quality of care across our services.
In this role, you’ll deliver Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training across the Trust and provide specialist advice to clinical teams supporting individuals whose behaviours may be challenging. You’ll promote least restrictive practice, trauma‑informed approaches and effective de‑escalation, supporting teams to manage risk safely and compassionately.

Candidates with a recognised teaching qualification will be appointed at Band 4. Applicants without a teaching qualification will be appointed at Band 3.

Main duties of the job
5. Deliver Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training consistently across Trust services, ensuring agreed learning outcomes are met
6. Provide specialist advice and practical support to clinical teams promoting least restrictive and trauma‑informed approaches
7. Coach, role‑model and support staff in de‑escalation and safe physical intervention techniques
8. Adapt training delivery to meet individual learning needs, including reasonable adjustments
9. Support post‑incident reviews, reflective practice and identification of learning
10. Contribute to the development, review and delivery of PMVA training materials and packages
11. Assess learner competence, fitness and capability, escalating concerns where required
12. Maintain accurate training records and contribute to training evaluation in line with RRN standards
13. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and subject matter experts
14. Support bespoke in‑service training and clinical advice days across inpatient, community and home settings

Qualifications
Essential criteria
15. Teaching Certificate or working towards achieving within a set timeframe
16. NVQ level 2 or 3
Desirable criteria
17. Qualification in group training skills Leadership Training
18. Accredited Management of Aggression and Violence Instructor qualification e.g. certificate of Professional Development in Teaching in the Prevention and Management of Violence
Experience
Essential criteria
19. Experience of working in either a mental health or learning disability service.
20. Evidence of continuous professional development and interprofessional learning.
Desirable criteria
21. Supervisory experience
22. Leading Group training sessions
23. Practical experience delivering MVA training within the last 3 years
Knowledge
Essential criteria
24. Knowledge of contemporary issues in PMVA
25. Demonstrate an understanding of current legislation with respect to the use of force act and how this relates into clinical practice and PMVA training.
26. Knowledge and awareness of trauma informed care, principles and approaches
27. Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Dolls pertaining to MVA and NICE
