Overview
The Evelina are seeking a highly-motivated and dynamic individual to join a growing team of Paediatric Critical Care Advanced Clinical Practitioners (PCCACP). Applicants from professional groups who are eligible to undertake non-medical prescribing under current statutory regulation with significant Critical Care experience as an AP are welcomed to apply. The post holder will work as a member of PCC and STRS as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and be an expert practitioner and role model with PCC and retrieval. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner in forming clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff, formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the clinical speciality. The post holder will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff ensuring quality standards are met. The post holder will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained.

Responsibilities
* Work autonomously across professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery systems.
* Assess patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and determine health care needs using highly-developed nursing knowledge and skills.
* Order necessary investigations and provide treatment and care, individually, as part of a team, and through referral to other agencies.
* Make differential diagnoses using decision-making and problem-solving skills with authority to admit or discharge patients from caseload, and refer to other health care providers as appropriate.
* Provide a consultancy and clinical leadership function as required.
* Undertake a wide range of advanced clinical interventions, including Advanced Life Support Skills and Independent Nurse Prescribing.
* Support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisions relating to treatment and management.
* Review and update documentation to improve quality, accuracy and consistency of information recorded, ensuring CNST compliance.
* Negotiate and facilitate the management of change in practices to achieve best practice in services.
* Develop and implement with nursing and consultant staff new policies and clinical guidance for new procedures.
* Support and facilitate the development of clinical skills for nurses.
* Line manage local nursing and support team members as appropriate, including clinical nurse specialists.
* Lead the nursing team in establishing and maintaining effective communication with multi-disciplinary teams, patients, carers and external agencies.
* Coordinate, lead and manage day-to-day activities of the clinical environment.
* Establish regular dialogue with local and tertiary referral centres to share good practice.
* Participate in professional nursing initiatives as an invited member of the Directorate and trust nursing groups (e.g., TNMC).
* Lead relevant departmental nursing meetings.
* Investigate complaints relating to patient care and develop action plans to address concerns, identifying learning and changes to practice.
* Manage human resources issues and undertake PDRs (appraisals).
* Utilise excellent prioritising and time management skills to meet unpredictable and conflicting service needs.
* Develop own managerial and administrative functions in conjunction with role developments.
Service Development
* Work with Clinical Leads and Service Managers to meet local, corporate and national initiatives and targets for the specialty.
* Lead a national multi-disciplinary working party to ensure consistent, evidence-based treatment and care for complex patients at other centres in England.
* Lead implementation of nursing developments/initiatives from national networks or bodies.
* Utilise information systems to aid regular audits of the clinical role and provide quarterly activity analysis and specialist reports.
* Contribute expert input to the Trust’s quality strategy using a whole-systems approach.
* Facilitate change by collaborating with stakeholders across professions and organisational boundaries to improve patient outcomes.
* Perform and report on quality assurance measures for new initiatives within the Trust and relevant agencies.
* Identify and advance the specific contributions of nurse practitioners within the service for future development.
Financial responsibilities
* Accountable for all aspects of the allocated budget.
* Ensure best practice and value for money when ordering supplies and maintaining stocks; adhere to the Trust’s financial management code of practice.
* Hold regular budget meetings with the service delivery manager.
Information management
* Monitor investigations and appointments weekly, in collaboration with administration and managerial staff.
* Ensure compliance with the 18-week pathway and other service developments.
* Provide an annual report of statistics, KPIs, service and practice developments.
* Maintain a high standard of documentation compliant with the Trust's documentation policy and the NMC guidance on record keeping and information governance.
Education & Developing others
* Enable patients/clients to learn by designing and coordinating learning plans appropriate to their needs and learning styles.
* Develop governance systems by contributing to evidence-based protocols, documentation processes, standards, policies and clinical guidelines.
* Collaborate to plan and deliver learning interventions for their own and other professions.
* Promote an organisational culture that supports continuous learning, evidence-based practice and succession planning.
* Engage with local, regional, national and international perspectives in the clinical specialty.
* Provide training and education opportunities within the team, the Trust, and national settings.

* Participate in projects and research to enhance personal performance and service operation; contribute to the Nursing & Midwifery Strategy objectives.
