We're looking for a Consultant Haematologist to join our forward-thinking and dynamic team, working across Whittington Health and University College Hospital (UCLH). This exciting post is ideal for a clinician with specialist interest in red cell haematology, who is passionate about service development, teaching, and improving outcomes in a diverse and complex population. You\'ll have the chance to shape and grow services in red cell disorders and general haematology, contribute and collaborate closely with academic and clinical leaders. You will work within a nationally recognised haemoglobinopathy service, contributing to the North Central London and East of England Red Cell Network, while also supporting general haematology provision. The job plan includes outpatient clinics, ward cover, MDT participation and research opportunities, with a 1:6 on-call rota.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
Job Plan
The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average, to be carried out at Whittington Health and UCH. The primary commitment will be supporting and developing the general and red cell haematology services in collaboration with the existing team. There will be 2 clinics per week at Whittington Hospital. There is also 1 red cell clinic and iron clinic at UCLH with the opportunity to attend the MDT there if desired. The appointee will run 1 general clinic and take part in the specialist red cell clinic with other colleagues. The appointee can develop their own sub-specialities after discussion with the department lead. The appointee is expected to participate in management of haematology patients when ward attending. At Whittington, involvement in research and development of a personal area of interest is encouraged. Holidays and study leave should be discussed to ensure seamless service provision. The post-holder is expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching and supervision/training of junior doctors, with attendance at clinical haematology governance meetings. There will be on-call responsibility on a 1:6 basis with prospective cover. A detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives will be discussed and agreed with the Clinical Head of Service within 3 months of start date, with a prospective diary exercise to inform this process.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full and Specialist registration (and licence to practise) with the GMC or eligible for registration within six months of interview
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent within six months of interview
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification
* MRCP or equivalent qualification
Clinical Experience and Skills
* Broad experience in clinical haematology
* Experience in managing sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes
* Experience in managing complex thrombosis issues
* Experience in managing patients with haematological malignancies
* Transfusion experience
Audit Management & IT
* Experience of audit and understanding of clinical governance, especially as applied to introducing or developing new techniques
* Good IT skills
Desirable
* Experience of Quality Improvement Projects
Research, Teaching Skill & Experience
* Understanding and knowledge of research ethics
* Understanding and experience of research techniques
* Experience of entering patients into trials
* Experience in teaching and training
Desirable
* Higher degree MD or PhD
Personal Qualities
