🏭 Interim HSE Advisor


Location: Nr. Crawley, South-East England, (on-site 5 days per week)

Contract: Interim | 6 months initially

Day Rate: £400-500+VAT (outside IR35)

Purpose of the Role


The Interim HSE Officer will take ownership of all on-site health, safety and environmental standards within a busy engineering and manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role for a pragmatic professional who can assess current practice, advise senior stakeholders, and implement improvements that safeguard people, assets and reputation.

Key Responsibilities


* Lead day-to-day HSE operations ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements (HSAW Act, PUWER, COSHH, LOLER, RIDDOR, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
* Conduct site inspections, audits and risk assessments across production areas, workshops and offices.
* Identify hazards and improvement opportunities, developing realistic and sustainable action plans.
* Coach and influence multi-disciplined teams, embedding a culture of accountability and safe behaviour.
* Support line managers with incident investigation, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Deliver toolbox talks, training and awareness sessions for staff and contractors.
* Maintain accurate safety documentation, reporting metrics to senior leadership and external regulators.
* Review and update HSE policies, procedures and risk registers in line with evolving operations.
* Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure plant, machinery and processes operate safely.
* Provide advisory input to new projects, layout changes and process improvements to eliminate risk at source.


Experience & Requirements


✅ Proven HSE experience within manufacturing, engineering or production environments (essential).

✅ Strong working knowledge of UK HSE legislation and best practice.

✅ Recognised HSE qualification (NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, NVQ Level 5 or equivalent).

✅ Demonstrable experience engaging with cross-functional teams and contractors.

✅ Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive continuous improvement.

✅ Confident communicator, able to influence all levels from shop-floor to boardroom.

✅ Track record of improving compliance, culture and overall site safety performance.

📊 Interim Project Controller


Location: As above (on-site 3 days per week / hybrid, some remote working)

Contract: Interim | 6 months initially

Rate: Competitive day rate (outside IR35)

Start: Immediate

Purpose of the Role


The Interim Project Controller will provide essential support to the Project Manager and wider leadership team, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to scope. You will bring financial control, planning discipline and analytical rigour to a complex programme of work within an engineering and manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities


* Maintain and update detailed project plans, schedules and progress trackers.
* Provide accurate cost control, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis across multiple workstreams.
* Prepare and present performance dashboards and financial summaries to senior stakeholders.
* Support monthly reporting, risk management and change control processes.
* Ensure all project documentation is complete, compliant and accessible.
* Collaborate with procurement, engineering, finance and operations teams to maintain project alignment.
* Identify and escalate potential risks or issues impacting timelines or budgets.
* Drive consistency in project governance, standards and reporting across the business.
* Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in project delivery.


Experience & Requirements


✅ Proven experience in project control, cost management or PMO roles within engineering, construction, manufacturing or industrial environments.

✅ Strong understanding of project lifecycle, budgeting, forecasting and earned-value principles.

✅ Advanced Excel skills; experience with MS Project or Primavera desirable.

✅ Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

✅ Financial acumen with the ability to interpret and communicate data to non-finance stakeholders.

✅ Confident communicator, capable of working with both technical and leadership teams.

✅ Strong analytical mindset, proactive in identifying solutions and improvements.
