Strategic Control System Lead (Operational Technology)
Salary:Circa £60,000 depending on experience
Fixed Term Contract(End of 2028), Full-time, with flexibility for part-time
Base Location: Flexible across Anglian Water Region, with travel toThorpe Wood House, Peterborough

As ourEnterprise Control Lead,you’llhelp prepare the business tooperateone of Anglian Water’s most significant infrastructure programmes — the 300km+ Strategic Pipeline(Interconnector 1). This digitally enabled transfer system is designed to improve drought resilience and transform how water moves across our region.
You’llact as the key link between Water Supply,theStrategic PipelineAlliance(SPA)Digitaldesign teamand the Strategic Pipeline Integration (SPI) Programme, ensuring the business is ready to adopt and manage the new Enterprise Control System. Your work willshape howassets areoperatedusingadvanced digital controland datamanagement,influence new ways of working across operational teams, and support the successful integration ofthe Strategic Interconnectorinto the wider AW network.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the implementation and ongoing operation of the Enterprise Control System, developing strong understanding of its architecture, datastructuresand functionality.
2. Work with designers and SubjectMatterExperts to define and optimise how the strategic pipeline isoperated, ensuring project deliverables meetfront-linerequirements.
3. Identifyopportunities for system enhancements, efficiencyimprovementsand future value creation, producing supporting business cases whererequired.
4. Lead process mapping toestablishclear operating, maintenance and changecontrol frameworks, including governance and version management oncethe system has been implementedcontrol frameworks, including governance and version management once in BAU.
5. Define the organisational roles needed to support future operations and ensure effective transition from project delivery.
6. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and SMEs to ensure shared understanding and alignment across Water Services,SPAand the wider business.
7. Support change management by contributing technical content, delivering training, and helping embedlong-termlearning pathways for systemusers.
8. Promote cultural change, particularly in data quality, versioncontrolandcross-teamcollaboration, while sharing best practice across SPA andAW.
9. Maintainhigh standardsof health and safety, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, reporting near misses, and supporting continuous improvement.
Requirements:
10. Strong knowledge and experience of SCADA system design and operation.
11. Understanding of object-oriented design principles within industrial controlenvironments.
12. Experience using modern programming languages forcontrolrelatedproductdevelopment.
13. Knowledge ofrole-basedaccess control and digital control product lifecyclemanagement.
14. Degreeleveleducation in a relevant engineering or technical discipline (essential); postgraduate qualificationdesirable.
15. Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition Platform (desirable).
16. Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences andfacilitateeffectivedecisionmaking.
17. Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to balance competing priorities andmaintainstrong working relationships.
18. Collaborative, approachable, and able to inspire and motivate teams across disciplines.
