Job Description:
A leading developer of clean energy technologies is expanding its engineering team to accelerate the commercial delivery of innovative hydrogen-based systems. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of a fast-moving programme that is developing functional, scalable technology for real-world deployment.
As Senior Process Engineer, you will be a key contributor to a multidisciplinary team responsible for the full lifecycle of process development — from early design concepts through to commissioning and scale-up. The role offers a diverse and technically engaging workload, with strong opportunities for personal and career growth.
Senior Process Engineer responsibilities
* Develop and review process documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, and Basis of Design
* Perform detailed calculations such as line and relief sizing, hydraulic analysis, and pressure drop estimations
* Support the creation of control narratives, alarm lists, cause and effect matrices, and functional descriptions
* Lead or participate in equipment selection and liaise with suppliers on specification and procurement
* Conduct process simulations using Aspen Plus or HYSYS
* Analyse experimental and test data to inform process improvements
* Support scale-up activities from lab and pilot stages to full-scale systems
* Collaborate in cross-functional design reviews with mechanical, automation, and development teams
* Assist with costing, budgeting, and performance modelling including consumption and running costs
Senior Process Engineer requirements
* Degree-qualified in Chemical or Process Engineering (or equivalent)
* Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience
* Chartered or working towards chartership (IChemE or equivalent preferred)
* Strong technical design skills and familiarity with the end-to-end process development cycle
* Experienced in producing detailed process documentation and calculations
* Proficient in the use of simulation tools such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS
* Effective communicator, able to work closely with internal teams and external suppliers
* Safety and compliance knowledge including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, DSEAR, ATEX and SIL assessments
