Overview

The post holder must ensure the provision of high-quality patient care by providing an efficient and effective administration service for the Consultants, designated Medical Staff and other health care professionals. To act as first point of contact for all forms of communication for the Consultants and their team. To monitor the timetable of the consultant team, taking an overview of the co-ordination of outpatient commitments. To communicate appointment and admission related information to patients and/or carers. To support the administrative pathway ensuring patients are seen within the mandatory waiting time targets.


Responsibilities

* To co-ordinate and be responsible for the provision of full secretarial and administrative services to the Consultant and his/her team
* Day to day management of the Consultant\'s diary e.g. organising clinic commitments, arranging appointments and scheduling procedure dates
* To maintain an overview of the consultant and team timetable to ensure full utilization of clinic and theatre availability
* To arrange special investigations and action other issues arising from clinic appointments, ensuring that all tasks are dealt with in order according to their urgency
* Taking appropriate action to ensure that requests for diagnostics and follow-up appointments are processed in a timely fashion
* To ensure patient, referral letters, pathological reports, correspondence, investigation results etc. are available for preparation of clinics
